JCQ consultation on banning all watches in examinations from the summer series 2021

4th March 2020

The consultation, which runs until noon on Friday 30 October 2020, is in response to the Independent Commission on Examination Malpractice recommendation:

“JCQ regulations should ban all watches from examination rooms.  A dispensation should be made available as an access arrangement for eligible candidates who need a watch to be able to have a non-smart watch which must be placed on their desk.”

This recommendation is to future-proof the system and reduce the burden on invigilators and examinations officers of recognising a smart watch.

In the case of access arrangements, the survey proposes that these be centre delegated.

I do hope that you will find a few minutes to complete the survey.  We will notify centres of any changes to JCQ policy in November 2020.
